Rules and Info
Welcome to the 2011 TreeDragon Hockey Playoff Pool
If you have never been in the pool before, be sure to read the rules carefully and understand them! There will be a link on this site as soon as the regular season ends so you can make your picks.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a reseeding after the first round, so you will have to make picks TWICE...once for the first round, and once for the second- through final-rounds. If you fail to submit your second-final round picks, you will default to picking the lower-seeded team to win in 4 games.
Here are the rules:
1. Pick the winner of the series and the number of games that you think it will take to win the series (all are 7-game series).
Cost is $20. All money collected will be distributed to the winners. You can send me the money in check or money order (address is at bottom of emails), or I will collect it from you when I see you. All in NJ can give it to Tim B. and he will get it to me.
2. If you pick the winner correctly, you get 4 points minus the number of games that you missed by. Example: If you pick Detroit in 5 and the series goes 7 games you get 2 points...4 points for the series win minus 2 for the number of games that you missed by (6 minus 4).
NEW SCORING:: You will get a bonus point in the first three rounds (not applicable to Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals) if you pick the lower-seeded team and they win the series. In the above example, if Detroit were the 8-Seed playing a 1-Seed and they won the series, you would get 3 points instead of 2.
Also, if you pick a Sweep - any team winning a series in 4 games - and they win in a sweep, you will get a bonus point. This will be applicable for ALL ROUNDS of the playoffs including Conference and Stanley Cup Finals.
So now there is a possibility of getting 6 points in series for the first two rounds, and 5 points per series in the last two rounds...if you pick a lower-seeded team to sweep and they do, you will get 6 points in the first three rounds and 5 points in the last two rounds.
No points if you don't pick the winner of the series.
3. Pool lasts through all the playoff rounds. Since there is a reseeding after the first round, you will need to pick your teams again before the start of the second round. These will be your picks through the end of the playoffs. I will email you when they are due. See above for default picks if you don't submit your second-final round picks.
4. For the Stanley Cup Final series you will pick the winner of the series, games, and TOTAL GOALS SCORED IN ALL GAMES FOR BOTH TEAMS COMBINED. Total goals will be the tie-breaker. There is usually some confusion on this, so a bit of advice...if you are thinking of picking a number less than 10 READ THIS AGAIN! Total goals will be the tie-breaker. If it is still a tie with total goals the winners will split the pot.
5. Total prize money will be First $320, Second $150, Third $70 Consolation $20 - all money taken in will be paid out (I do this out of the goodness of my heart and love of hockey!).
